Melcourt Industries have added the supply of Bioshells® to its wood, bark, and heather based filtration solutions. Acting as a carrier substrate for micro-organisms to oxidise odorous compounds, Bioshells® are ideal for medium to high H2S applications, the non toxic reduction of organic odours, dealing with microbial growth media, and creating an air flow skeleton. The Bioshells® provide a totally natural solution with a large surface area which has an open structure and is self supporting to a depth of 3 metres. “Subject to full technical appraisal, Melcourt Bioshells® are suitable for all biofilter applications where odours are organic in origin – such as sewage and sludge works, food processing factories, animal by-product rendering plants, abattoirs, pet food processors, worm, maggot and pig farms, “ says Andy Chalmers, Melcourt Sales and Marketing Director. When compared with other solutions, Melcourt Bioshells® offer excellent mass transfer characteristics at a relatively low pressure drop, and a reduced start-up time due to continuous irrigation capacity and pre-seeding capability. Bioshells® also deliver increased odour removal efficiencies, ability to handle large and sustained peak loadings (up to 5 times the design level) and pH regulation due to reaction of acid by-products with the calcium carbonate inherent within the shells. “This is a low maintenance media with a life of up to 2 years which is very easy to install mechanically or by hand,” says Andy Chalmers. “The product is available as either bulk or bagged delivery and is a perfect complement to our Wood Based Biofil® media, Melcourt Filter Bark - coarse, Melcourt Filter Bark - medium and Melcourt Heather. ” |
