Members of the Midlands Regional Growers Group met at Melcourt Industries headquarters site in Tetbury last week in a visit which, according to its chairman Geoff Caesar "busted a few myths about the availability and suitability of non-peat products for the production of plants."
The group, which in addition to Geoff Caesar from Bransford Webbs, included nurseries such as Boningale, Hugh Nunn, Wyevale Hawkins, Hayloft Plants and Merediths, were shown around the state-of-the-art growing media manufacturing facility together with Melcourt’s bark processing site. Company Technical Director Catherine Dawson gave a presentation about Sylvamix, Melcourt's peat-free growing media range for professional growers and showed the wide range of crops being grown in its various formulations. Issues such as availability and competitiveness were discussed.
Geoff Caesar commented further "We had a fascinating day. At Bransford we have considerable previous experience of using Melcourt products and will be establishing new trials for next spring. For members of the Midland Regional Growers Melcourt are a local business that present a number of opportunities for growing media."

After the meeting Melcourt's director Andy Chalmers said "We are doing more and more of these presentations to small groups of growers as it is a very effective way for us to demonstrate first-hand the lengths we go to to ensure excellent quality every time, and to be able to discuss the real situation regarding availability rather than the somewhat inaccurate views we often read in the press."
GroSouth 2011 gave us the opportunity to introduce Neil Gray as our new Technical Sales Manager. The show was well attended which meant that we met up with lots of old friends among the professional grower community - and some new ones. Will George of Prenplants who we profiled in a recent issue of Melcourt Solutions dropped by to report that the crop he has just grown using Melcourt Sylvamix® is of superb quality whilst Hillier Nurseries visited to discuss further developments in the way they use our products not just as a growing medium but as a pot mulch. Our distributors Fargro and BHGS both also had stands at the show and gave excellent feedback.

We also had a stand at the Society of Garden Designers Conference in London on 12th November where we had the opportunity to talk about our landscape range of products to over 250 of the leading names in garden design. Given the current interest in the peat issue it is perhaps not surprising to report an huge amount of interest in our peat-free range.
Melcourt Professional Landscape, Garden and Play products are now listed by the UK's leading buying society for independent builders merchants.
